We would like to thank all who came down to support our First Alive at Five! The weather gods were smiling on us and we hope to have another success next week. Next week is the always popular Clash of the Titans so mark your calendars. And now the weekend round up…
Saturday: Darjeeling Tea and Dumpling Party. Salt Institute. 6 PM. $5.
This may be the most unique event going on downtown this weekend. We always love when people come up with creative ideas for fundraisers, we can only go to so many bake sales. This will feature photos by humanitarian photographer Thatcher Cook and his students. You can bid on the photos and sample darjeeling tea and traditional Indian treats. All you donate goes to children in a remote village near Darjeeling. Not that I don’t think you wouldn’t donate anyway but sometimes a little food helps.
Sunday. Boat Building. Monument Square. Free.
We’ve seen a lot of Portland summers and this is always one of our favorite events. Ten teams of boat builders will each build 12 foot long boats in just three days and you get to watch. It’s all for a good cause and goes to support the Compass Project. The boats will be launched at the East End Beach where it’s literally sink or swim. It looks like we have the perfect weekend for some time on the water.
