Here is what’s going on in Portland. Some of it any way. We have to admit we’re a little biased to the downtown events.
Thursday. Alive at Five. Monument Square. 5 PM. FREE.
I don’t think anyone would argue with the fact that Alive at Five is the best summer concert series on Thursdays in Monument Square. This week is the The Leftovers and All The Real Girls, which are two splendid local bands. It finally feels like summer so come on down and join us for the fun. The Sebago Brewing Company guys will be supplying us with refreshing beers in the beer garden.
Friday: Joan Baez. Merrill Auditorium. 8 PM. $37.50.
Merrill Auditorium is sponsoring another sixties era musical icon this weekend. Joan Baez will be bringing her tour to Merill Auditorium. She always has a good cause going on, the last time we checked she’s focused on the environment. She’s a great performer and we’re happy to have her in Maine.
Saturday: Mad Tea Party. Space Gallery. 8:30 PM. $8.
Musical renegades Ami Worthen and Jason Krekel from North Carolina put on a show that combines honky tonk, pop and rock ‘n roll. They put on a great live show and are sure to put on a show with plenty of energy and something new for your ears to enjoy. Portland favorites Over A Cardboard Sea will be performing as well. Word is they also use an electric ukulele…awesome.
Sunday. Got Milk Campaign. Tommy’s Park. All Day. Free.
This is one of our favorite free events downtown in the summer. They’ll be here all weekend starting on Thursday. You can pose for a celebrity inspired milk mustache photos, get tips on health and wellness, receive a free health screening and massage, and of course enjoy ice cold milk. It is a great event for people of all ages. We still have our milk mustache pic up on the fridge from last time they were in town.
